The Amarillo Police Department said that about 20 percent of auto burglaries involve the theft of identifying documents in purses, wallets, or backpacks. Identifying documents stolen in auto burglaries are often found during investigations and arrests for unrelated offenses. The APD has investigated about 45 reported auto burglaries in the last two weeks. Officers have arrested two juveniles and three adults in connection with four incidents of theft of property from vehicles since April 20.

On April 22, APD located a wanted person as well as various stolen documents and multiple checks, photocopies of checks, photocopies of U.S. currency, and a credit card reader.
