Amarillo Area Foundation is there to help the Panhandle

This wonderful site is for one of the area’s crown jewels– the Amarillo Area Foundation, a nonprofit community that works to benefit citizens of the Texas Panhandle. The Foundation was formed in 1957, originally to address the needs of the area needing a hospital. They founded the Harrington Regional Medical Center.

In the 70’s they started a Scholarship foundation which now offers a variety of scholarships by county. After a substantial gift from the Don & Sybil Harrington Foundation, their private foundation was able to become a public non-profit. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided over $140 million in grants.

They have a beautiful site with information about scholarships, grants, links to help people give, with a charity distribution request link, links to establish funds of their own along with legacy funds. They also have a women’s philanthropy fund.

One of the many great services they do is hold seminars. One upcoming seminar is on how to set up a charitable giving fund, which is on May 1st. They also hold regular workshops in their Non-Profit Service Center.

The site is an excellent resource with too many beneficial links to list. For anyone wondering how to support a cause in the Texas Panhandle, this is one of the integral sites to check out.
