Amarillo And A Random Nuke Train

Photos: The random nuke train ruins of Amarillo…

Kristoffer Tripplaar Isn't A Real Photographer

During my New Mexico Cold War Extravaganza last year I took a quick trip into Texas to stop by the long closed Amarillo Air Force Base. The base was closed in the late 60’s and over the years a lot of it has been torn down. But there were remnants of the place left when I swung through.

One curious find were a set of train cars from the Pantex plant down the road. Pantex is where decommissioned nuclear weapons are disassembled and reprocessed into fuel for nuclear reactors. The train cars were used to move the weapons around the facility.
