Brain Mapping with the Connectome Project

The purpose of the Human Connectome Project is to map the brain in order to better understand how all the parts of the brain work together to produce behavior. Brain mapping is an ambitious project, and the purpose here doesn’t seem to be about an end result as much as learning how brain functioning affects our behavior, and how pinpointing breakdowns in functioning can prevent brain diseases later. People do tests to see what parts of the brain are active when doing certain tasks to see what parts of the brain are active while doing tasks, listening to language, engaging in social interactions, etc. Diffusion imaging helps to see brain activity in how thoughts are processed.
