At age 102, Joseph Medicine Crow has passed away in Montana. He was the last Plains Indian war chief.  The historian, veteran, and anthropologist was awarded the Legion d’honneur, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Bronze Star Medal for his service in World War II, after going up against the Nazis and stealing their horses. In 1938, he was the first Crow male to obtain a college degree.

He was well-known for his work on the Battle of Little Big Horn

Talk about a long, useful life.
